Highlights of Your Visit

The Throne Hall

This two-story hall is a breathtaking example of Byzantine-style architecture, with intricate mosaics, a grand chandelier, and designs inspired by the Hagia Sophia. Ironically, the throne itself was never completed due to the King's death.

The Singers' Hall

Located on the fourth floor, this is the largest room in the castle and features stunning murals depicting scenes from the legends of "Lohengrin" and "Parsifal." It was designed for opera performances but never used during Ludwig's lifetime.

Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge)

For the most iconic, postcard-perfect view of Neuschwanstein Castle, take the short walk to this pedestrian bridge suspended over the Pöllat Gorge. Be aware that it can be crowded and is often closed in winter due to weather conditions.

Getting to the Castle

The castle is located above the village of Hohenschwangau. The address for navigation is Neuschwansteinstraße 20, 87645 Schwangau, Germany. You cannot drive directly to the castle. Parking is available in one of four paid car parks in the village.

From the village, you must get up to the castle entrance. You have three options: a steep 30-40 minute walk, a shuttle bus (which drops you near Marienbrücke, a 15-minute downhill walk to the entrance), or a horse-drawn carriage (which drops you off about a 10-minute walk below the entrance). Plan to arrive in the village at least 90 minutes before your tour time to allow for ticket collection (if needed) and the journey up the hill.
