Information for Wheelchair Users
Elevator Access
Neuschwanstein Castle has an elevator, making it possible for wheelchair users to participate in a guided tour. However, for fire and safety reasons, only one wheelchair user per hour is permitted on a tour. It is essential to register your visit in advance with the castle administration.
Elevator Dimensions
The elevator door width is 0.85m and the depth is 1.30m. Please ensure your wheelchair fits these dimensions. The castle does not provide wheelchairs for hire.
Getting to the Castle
The path to the castle is very steep. The horse-drawn carriage can transport folding wheelchairs, but not electric ones. The carriage stops about 450m from the entrance, on a path with a gradient of up to 15%. The shuttle bus is another option but also requires a final walk. A special vehicle service from the Bavarian Red Cross may be available on certain days; inquire with the castle administration for details.
